Text Box: Spring Break
Text Box: okay I used a dictionary too.) Joshua Tree is a very righteous place, because, if you go off trail and have no idea where you are, you can walk two miles in any direction and you will hit the trail.
There is also a profuse amount of flowers in J. Tree. You’ll be hiking and all of a sudden come up to a patch of purple. There are so many of them that it just looks like a pool of purple food coloring. We were walking down the trail one day, and I looked up at a mountain and noticed that it’s different colors in different spots. Kind of like a pretty bruise.
The actual hike was pretty Text Box: uneventful, with the exception of a few off trail excursions and Mr. England’s Military stories.
Note to Parents: If your son ever asks for a couple of large boxes of packaging peanuts, don’t give it to them.

Text Box: This year the troop took a 4-day long hike over Spring Break to Joshua Tree. Joshua Tree looks like a place right out of a Dr. Seuss novel. As I walked down the trail, I couldn’t help reciting, “There’s a Wocket in My Pocket” or “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.” (Hmm… apparently spell check doesn’t recognize Dr. Seuss words. How uncool.)
But besides the whole Dr. Seuss motif, (Whoa, wait a second, motif, that’s a crazy word. For those who don’t have a pocket dictionary, that means design, theme of an area or place. It’s Text Box: Page #

Text Box: Our small group started at Starbucks at 6:45. After a short loop through Green Valley we crossed the bridge over Lake Hodges. Then we stopped at Peterson's Donut Shop in Escondido to replenish our energy. We biked through the rest of Escondido and got onto Old Highway 395. We got to go Text Box: down a three mile hill which was refreshing after the long flat roads of Escondido. After that, we went up a two mile long hill, it was hard but we made it. We then crossed a bridge across the I-15. After that we ate lunch. We continued on a rolling country road. Then we went down a one mile hill, biked Text Box: through Escondido again and finally we got back to the church.

Thanks to those Scouts (and Adults) who submitted material for this newsletter.  Summer is here!  A time of warm weather and ice cream.  It is also the time we have many summer outings.  It would be nice to have a scout or two volunteer to write about  an outing.  So, if while you are playing capture the flag, or a rousing game of broomball and happen to be inspired to write an article, please do not hesitate to call/e-mail me (my phone number is (858) 487-8456 and my e-mail is CAGMLG@cox.net).  I welcome all submissions, whether they be articles, photos, drawings, comics, or jokes (as long as they are scout/wilderness related).
