Troop 680 is located in Rancho Bernardo, a northern community within
the city of San Diego, California. We are a member of the Black
Mountain District and the San Diego Imperial Council. Our Troop is
different from most others in that we believe and are using the boys
to run the Troop. The youth leadership run every meeting from start
to finish with simply a Scoutmaster conference, and some
announcements, being the only adult input most nights. We also have
one of the most active backpacking and hiking schedules in the
council. Two outings a month is average and they range from advanced
backpacks such as "The Sierra Trek", to day hikes, bike rides, canoe
trips, and weekend backpacks in the local mountains or desert. Our
outings program and youth leadership have been enough to attract
enough youth to keep the troop size on average at 65-70, and in
recent years as high as 85-90. If you are interested in the Troop or
would like to know more you can send an e-mail to the webmaster. A
volunteer Scout in the Troop selected by the senior patrol leader -
and he will be glad to accommodate. Please allow a one week
response time for this process.
We are an active member of the community, and each member of our
Troop performs a minimum of 4 service hours a year and most do
10-20. The Scouts in our Troop perform an average of at least 4
eagle projects a year. At our meeting place, every week a patrol of
Scouts spends half an hour cleaning four bus stops, and members of
our Troop regularly support our charter organizations with their
activities. We are also active in the Scouting community where we
have around ten Scouts join OA each year. Also, we donate more money
than any other troop, by a large amount, to Friends of Scouting.
