The next day we took a wrong turn and had to climb up a hill with pine trees flinging icicles at us. After we got back on the trail it started to rain. Our destination was Pine Valley, but we stopped several miles short at Hiding Canyon due to rain. This was the first time I had seen it rain so hard on a camping trip, and the way everyone helps each other showed astounding teamwork. Since the majority of us were freezing, a few brave souls cooked for everyone.
The rain had died down, but it was still a ghastly temperature Tuesday morning. We started out hoping for good weather and the Redwood Campsite. We didn't get either. Fearing hypothermia, the group took a detour to Church Creek Divide instead of Pine Ridge. We put up our tents under the trees so they would not be covered by snow.
On Wednesday, we had to do some serious hiking to get home on time. We hiked to Redwood for lunch and crossed a log over a creek. At Sykes (The location of fabled hot springs), we had to cross a river that had nothing to cross it with (Like a log), and due to my vertical impairment, one of the taller scouts had to carry my pack across for me. Our campsite for the night, Barlow flats, had a toilet that was a hole with a seat, and was, in my opinion, just as bad as a cat hole.
When we waited for the cars at the end of the hike an annoying little squirrel kept trying to eat our leftover food and was chased away by an assortment of hiking sticks. (On the last day we didn't need no stinkin' shirts). Next we came to Pismo and got clean and refreshed. Afterwards we went to the Klondike (Restaurant) to eat and we were all anxious to get home on Friday.
